Sensing into the embodied experience of oppression allows us to get a more visceral understanding of the path of liberation.
Serge Prengel is a Focusing-oriented therapist and the editor of Activepause.com
Starting in March 2022, we will be offering a ten-month, low-cost program for therapy clients. It will train people in Focusing as a way to help each other overcome the experience of oppression. This includes individual oppression such as physical or emotional violence in the family or the workforce, as well as systemic oppression, explicit or implicit, as in racism, sexism, gender biases…
The group will consist of ten 90-minute sessions, one a month, on the 4th Saturday of the month. In between sessions, participants will be doing Focusing sessions with each other as part of the training.
The group will be facilitated by trainees of the Integrative Focusing Therapy training program under the supervision of Serge Prengel. While they are licensed therapists, this is not meant as a therapy group, but as a resource-building group. Participants are expected to be (or to have been) in therapy.
This group is offered at a low fee in recognition that many people who deal with oppression also have limited resources. It is only for therapy clients who are dealing with oppression. None of the facilitators will be paid. All proceeds of this program will be used to create and distribute related resources to deal with oppression.
If you are are a therapist wanting to refer clients, or if you are interested in this group for yourself, please contact us.
